FRONT COVER ANALYSIS

The layout on the MOJO magazine is very ordered with the cover lines mostly aligned and the main cover line in the middle along with the main image however the layout on WE<3POP is all over the place with the main cover line diagonal on top of the main image in the top right hand corner.
The colour scheme on MOJO is only white, orange and black to convey elegance whereas WE<3POP's colour scheme is red, pink, yellow, white and black highlighting youth and allowing their audience of children to be able to have all their attention straight onto this magazine, connoting fun. The language on MOJO is more sophisticated to attract their target audience of rock loving males while WE<3POP uses slang such as "gossip" and "mag" to appeal to their target audience as this is the language they commonly use and will understand.
The masthead on MOJO is central and 3D so its viewed as the most important thing on that page unlike WE<3POP's as its scrambled into the corner and clearly isn't the most important think as the colours are simple (black, white and pink) and is diagonal illustrating its unimportance.
The typography on MOJO is exclusively two fonts to keep its order and allow the background and main cover line to stand out which connotes modernity on the other hand on WE<3POP's there are many different fonts connoting youth.
MOJO usually uses only white males on their front cover as rock musicians are stereotypically male thus enabling instant recognition from audience whereas in contrast WE<3POP's front cover addresses stereotypical female teenagers as loving pink and concerned with (heterosexual) relationships, fashion and gossip.
MOJO's front cover only represents white male musicians while under representing female musicians and musicians of colour. Opposite to WE<3POP's front cover only represents young adults and appears to exclude older people.
MOJO wishes to attract a target audience that shares its reverence for 'classic rock' so constructs a version of reality that represents musicians as authentic heroes, striving for excellence meanwhile WE<3POP wishes to attract an audience of young female teenagers so construct a version of reality centred on social media, appurtenances and romance which is what they would be used to and interested in.
The second half of this is much stronger than the first...and your last paragraph is pretty high level!
ReplyDeleteMake sure you always provided a piece of evidence (a direct aspect of the magazine).
